What I Saw: Behind The Scenes of Our High-Cut Gladiator Shorts

We've all seen it. The sick high-cut gladiator shorts worn by the likes of Jon Jones, Charles Oliveira, Max Holloway, and other top fighters. The way the side slits dance in the air with every kick.

So you go online, you look around for gladiator shorts, and all you see are the big skirt-looking ones people wear in boxing. Seriously, this is what I see.

"What the heck? This isn't what I was looking for", was probably what you were thinking. I know that's what I was thinking. Not that there's anything wrong with those shorts, it's just not what I was looking for. Was I crazy? What other term do I search to find them? High cut shorts? Split shorts?

So I go on to search on forums like Reddit for people who might know where to get them. To my surprise, this is what I see:

For real? Posts all throughout the past DECADE? And people are still looking for them? Some people are even doing DIY mods with swim trunks?

So yea, these things are in high demand. From people like me, and people like you. Not that they're revolutionary, or anything extremely special. I'm definitely not inventing them for sure. And there's even a few brands like BRFightwear, Allure Sports, Eryx Gear, and AMF that have them.

I just saw that people clearly wanted something like these in the market for the past decade and there's simply not enough people in the industry that even really tried to make them.

What?!

So I decided, I'll do it myself.

I saw that for the few companies that tried, well I just didn't think they were perfect. I wanted the best of the best. No velcro. Stretchy crotch gusset. Shorter inseam. Sleek design.

So I got some of my favorite no-gi shorts, got some measurements ready, decided where I personally wanted the side split to start, and started ordering samples. The first few weren't great, but it wasn't such a complicated product to make so I eventually got it down.

And there you go, that's the story of Kickin' Combat's high-cut gladiator shorts.
